Country Profile
Egypt spans northeast Africa and the southwest corner of the Middle East via the Sinai Peninsula. The river Nile played a key role in the development of Egyptian civilisation, and Ancient Egypt saw some of the earliest developments of writing, agriculture, and urbanisation. Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one that is still standing. Most historians date modern Egypt to 1922, with the establishment of the Kingdom of Egypt. Today, Egypt’s economy is mainly dependent on agriculture, media, natural gas, and tourism.
